The Lord has given us great influence, great "charisma", over people, and this is in order to bring them closer to Him. But it is He that they see in us and not we ourselves. Sometimes when confronted with the Spirit of God in His children some people don't quite know how to react. Some immediately reject and refute all contact with us, while others are attracted, even somewhat spellbound by that "someting different about you". You have touched their heart in a way that has never happened before and they are powerless against it. In some extreme cases, there are those who do recognize it as being the Lord, but decide to reject it, and harden their hearts for fear of being hurt.
Especially now, in this time of apostasy, it is important for people to be able to "see" Jesus, for His light to be seen in our eyes, our smile, our caring and thoughful words, our peaceful demeaner. If people are going to be seeing Jesus, they are going to be seeing Him in You first of all, and later, after faithful study of His Word, come to recognize Him on their own. They won't need you so much anymore, just like when a child grows up and no longer is so dependant on his/her parents. There will always be that special relationship between you, but the true relationship will be with the Lord, as it should be.
When you are busy with the cause of Christ, which is to love your neighbour as yourself, then you will wear that love like a garment and people will see it. You may or may not be aware of it, but it will be there, and those who are hungry for that love will be attracted to you, and you will have the responsibility to bring them Jesus personally. "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. " (Colo 1:27)
This love can be made manifest in many different ways and in many different places. It is by no means limited to a church building, temple or synagogue. The love of God knows no limitations and can be "seen" anywhere one of His children is displaying it for, " God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth " (Jn 4:24) Jesus said.
So, don't be afraid to show the love of God, and if you are one in need to be loved, don't be afraid to allow the love of God, through one of His children, to give you the comfort and guidance that you need.
