This term has been widely published in the international media as of late, but what exactly is an "axis of evil" ? Let's see what the Bible has to say about that, shall we ? But first we must define the word "aixs", and for that we turn to Webster's Dictionary that describes it thus," 1 : a straight line about which a body or a geometric figure rotates or may be supposed to rotate. 2 : the second vertebra of the neck on which the head and first vertebra turn as on a pivot ."
So, we can see from the above description that the word "axis" literally means "the pivotal point". What is the pivotal point of evil ? On what point does evil depend as it's anchor, it's pivot ? There are many instances in the Scriptures that reference ungodly behaviour such as," For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.."(Mk 7:21-23)
There is no doubt that these things are not the kind of behaviour that should be attributed to a Christian, a follower of Christ or any deeply religious person for that matter, but what is the "axis", the anchor, the pivotal point, the root of that evil ? For that we turn to the only book that has the authority on the subject, the Bible. And what does the Bible indeed say about the root of evil ? "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."(1Tim 6:10)
The "love" of money ! This Bible quotation has been so misquoted through the years that people seldom recognise it anymore. It is not the "possesion" of money as some have misquoted saying "money is the root of all evil" that is the problem. The possesion of money can actually be a good thing if it used wisely and to help others, but what the Bible says is the problem is "the love of money". There is a very big difference between the two. The one is used as a tool to do good and the other is a deep spiritual condition that brings about all the evils mentioned in the previous verses. It is a perversion of the soul ! This "love of money" can motivate someone or a group of someones to commit acts that are considered heinous and repulsive to honest ( free from fraud or deception - Webster's ) thinking people everywhere.
So, the "real" Axis of Evil is found in the "love" of money and it's ensuant lust for ultimate power and control ! Lucifer's revolt wasn't one for material money although it was one for power and control. "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High." (Isa14:12-14)
It sure becomes simple when we turn to the ultimate bureau of standards ( The Bible ) for answers to perplexing questions huh? What are the telltale signs that the Spirit of God is present and not this love of money ? Once again we turn to our source material ( The Bible ) "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.".(Gal 5:22-24)
"Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."(2Pe 1:4)
In your life, what do you demonstrate most ? The love and spirit of God or the axis of evil ?
