The Ascension

This is probably the most important of all representative "holidays" in the Christian faith. Easter, or the celebration of the ascension of Christ, represents what amounts to be the foundation of Christianity. The fact that Jesus rose from the dead sets Him apart from all other prophets and holy men of God throughout all of history.

He is the only One who was ever reported to have gotten the victory over death and hell all on His own, as He said," Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father."(Jn 10:17-18)

The very fact that Jesus did die and come back from the grave means that we will do the same, only to be spiritually resurected to life everlasting with Him in the heavenly kingdom of God. His victory over death and hell has paved the way for those who have accepted His sacrifice and have been "born again" of His spirit to also partake of this victory over death and hell." For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith" (1Jn 5:4). Thank you Jesus.

There are great and wonderful promises left to those who have overcome by receiving God's free gift of eternal life by His Son Jesus. "He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels." (Rev 3:5) " He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son." (Rev 21:7)

The Ascension, generally celebrated as "Easter", is a reminder of just what it is that Christ did for the world by offering His own body as a sacrifice for sin and resurecting from the dead, as death could have no power over Him, and as such became the Author of eternal life to all those who believe in Him and accept Him into their hearts and lives. " And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; "(Heb 5:9). " But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.( Heb 2:9)

So, although the world only celebrates "easter" once per year, we who are believers have the benefit of celebrating the Ascension every day of our lives as we give thanks to Jesus for all He has done for us in giving us love, life, liberty and eternal redemption so that we do not have to pay the price for sin ... He already paid it.

Thank you my Lord and Christ for going to the cross for me and suffering the shame of death so that I wouldn't have to. Thank you for eternal life and the ability to love my neighbour as myself, and thank you for giving of Yourself that I may live. Help me to do a better job of showing your love through my body and my life, and Lord help me bring your precious gift to those who truly hunger after righteousness and eternal life.

" Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?" (Pro 30:4).

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."(Acts 4:12).

Have you received God's gift in Jesus ? If not, you can right now by simply repeating this simple prayer," Lord Jesus, please come into my heart. I believe you are God's Son and that you rose from the dead to save me from sin. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit and help me to love others as myself. Amen."
